VIRIDYN TFMA-6: hydrophobic, oleophobic, solvent-resistant additive. Low-retention, low surface energy material for plastic medical & scientific devices (pipette tips, tubing, micro-centrifuge tubes).

VIRIDYN TFMA-6 is a hydrophobic and oleophobic dry-melt additive for polypropylene and polycarbonate used to create low-retention surfaces.

Application methods: Dry melt additive for injection moulding

Color: Colourless

Water contact angle: over 110°

Mineral oil contact angle: over 65°

  • TFMA-6 is compounded into polypropylene at 0.5% to make pipette tips and other plastic devices water, oil, and solvent repellent.

  • TFMA-6 prevents water, oil, buffers, solvents, biological-fluids, and other materials from sticking to device surfaces.

  • TFMA-6 is used in industrial, research, and biomedical applications for plastic devices such as pipette tips, tubing and micro-centrifuge tubes.

    • VIRIDYN TFMA-6 is provided as a solid that is usually ground into a fine powder by a compounder.

    • Compounding is a process, in which a polymer resin is melted and mixed with additives such as VIRIDYN TFMA-6.

    • Melt the polypropylene and mix in VIRIDYN TFMA-6 at concentration of 0.5%.

    • It is very important that a uniform distribution of VIRIDYN TFMA-6 in the polypropylene is achieved.

    • The end mixture or composite is now ready for injection moulding using instructions appropriate for the moulded parts being produced.

    • The VIRIDYN TFMA-6 containing composite must not be heated above 250°C.
