VIRIDYN 101-XP-300: PFAS-Free Electronic Grade PCBA Nano-Coatings
The Challenge
A global Tier 1 automotive supplier faced a supply-chain disruption as a result of the discontinuation of 3M’s Novec™ 1700 Electronic Grade Coating. The customer saw this disruption as an opportunity to explore whether a PFAS-free alternative would offer acceptable performance for their PCBA conformal coating requirements.
The customer reached out to ViriDyn with the following specifications:
Ultra-thin film hydrophobic coating (~0.2—0.5 micron)
PFAS-free in non-flammable solvent
No masking of SMT components required
Push-through connectivity
Pinhole-free, edge-to-edge coverage of PCBA
Compatibility with pre-existing coating application processes
The Solution
In support of customers who require high-performance PFAS-free conformal nano-coatings to protect PCBA against moisture and corrosion, while eliminating the need for cost-intensive manual masking, ViriDyn offers VIRIDYN 101-XP-300.
VIRIDYN 101-XP-300 is a PFAS-free electronic grade conformal nano-coating for PCBA, available in a non-flammable solvent system. At a concentration of 2%, 101-XP-300 offers excellent hydrophobic, edge-to-edge protection to PCBA against corrosion, while removing the need for manual masking of components due to the push-through connectivity made possible by the ultra-thin film nature of the material.
At a concentration of 2%, therefore, VIRIDYN 101-XP-300 is a strong alternative to fluorinated conformal coatings like VIRIDYN 101-X, as well as discontinued legacy products like 3M Novec™ 1700.
ViriDyn engineers worked closely with the integrated EMS provider of the global Tier 1 automotive supplier throughout testing, compliance certification and validation of VIRIDYN 101-XP-300 (2%) as a PFAS-free replacement for 3M Novec™ 1700.
