VIRIDYN 101-X-DA: Battery Management Systems for E-Mobility
The Challenge:
A leading automotive OEM in the e-Mobility sector reported battery management system performance failures in harsh operating environments. Even though the housings were designed to high IP-ratings, critical vulnerabilities remained in key electrical components, connectors, circuit boards, and sensors.
With performance reliability a key differentiator in the highly competitive e-Mobility market, the OEM approached ViriDyn in order to rapidly prototype and qualify a higher grade of protection to ensure improved performance in high-stress operating environments that exposed battery management systems to:
Moisture
Humidity
Dust and debris
Corrosive pollutants (e.g. acids)
The OEM approached ViriDyn for the following performance characteristics:
High grade hydrophobicity and oleophobicity
Acid and corrosion resistance
Hardness for abrasion resistance
High-degree of reworkability
Transparent finish
The Solution:
ViriDyn worked closely through the testing phase with the OEM to modify a pre-existing coating solution to meet the desired performance standards. VIRIDYN 101-X-DA was formulated as a durable, acid resistant, hydrophobic coating with a high-degree of reworkability.
ViriDyn was able to offer the following performance advantages to the OEM in addition to the stated requirements:
Fluorocarbon and PFAS-free system
Application and curing in under 10 minutes
UV traceable for easy quality testing
Low-cost integration into pre-existing manufacturing process.
By applying 101-X-DA to connectors, circuit boards, and sensors, the OEM significantly improved the resilience of the battery management system to an industry-leading standard, ensuring greater customer satisfaction as a result.
