VIRIDYN 101-X-DA: Impermeable Barriers for Fibre Optic Sensors

The Challenge:

An innovative sensor technology company required an ultra-thin (< 4 microns) moisture impermeable barrier for a flexible fibre optic sensor. The company had the following requirements for a coating that could protect the sensor, enabling it to function reliably in high-moisture and high-humidity environments:

  • Nano-scale coating (< 4 microns)

  • Lubricious, Hydrophobic

  • PFAS-free

  • Durability to endure repeated bending strains

The Solution:

ViriDyn and partners worked with the customer to identify VIRIDYN 101-X-DA as the best coating for the fibre optic sensor. VIRIDYN 101-X-DA is a PFAS-free, hydrophobic coating that dries to transparent, hard shell with the following properties:

  • Impermeable to moisture, gas, and corrosive pollutants.

  • Low-surface energy

  • Lubricious

  • Hard (7H - 9H pencil lead hard)

  • Durable, withstanding repetitive bending strains

  • UV light resistant (no yellowing)

  • Easy to apply and air-curing

Through ViriDyn’s advanced coating technologies, the company was able to ensure the robust performance and reliability of their innovative fibre optic sensor systems.
