VIRIDYN: Invisible Protection for Polycarbonates against Industrial Solvents

The Challenge

A group of engineers from an industrial manufacturer were faced with a recurring challenge:

Repeated exposure to industrial solvents was causing damage to a transparent polycarbonate component.

The engineers required a coating solution that met the following criteria:

  1. Extreme resistance to industrial solvents and temperature cycles

  2. Could be easily applied to the polycarbonate

  3. Would not impact transparency of substrate

The Solution

ViriDyn offers several formulations that are suitable for polycarbonate substrates and offer excellent resistance to organic solvents, as well as thermal stability up to 500°C.

Three materials were selected from the VIRIDYN D-Series, based on optimized solvent resistance, and provided to the customer for testing.

VIRIDYN DTO-8, VIRIDYN DTO-4 and VIRIDYN DA form an ultra-thin (~0.4μm), optically transparent, abrasion resistant and solvent resistant layer on the surface of the polycarbonate substrate.

All materials from the VIRIDYN D-Series are very easy to apply through wipe-on, metered rod, spray or dip application techniques requiring little to no equipment, minimal expense and minimal training.

All three chemistries are 100% fluorocarbons and PFAS-free.
